We are excited to announce a new movement that has been started at GVMS. A few weeks ago, several of the 8th Grade class officers approached their advisor about 'doing something' to help the school focus on being kind to each other. Out of this initial meeting came the Kindness Program. The 8th Grade class officers went home that night and hand wrote over 100 kindness quotes on colorful 8.5" x 11" cardstock papers. The next day they were plastered all over the school. These same students painted a poster with the phrase, "We can change the world with kindness". This poster is now displayed in the commons for all of the students to see.

In the next couple of weeks, your student(s) attending GVMS will be eligible to use an iPad for use at school and home. The iPad's are owned by the South Sanpete School District. Students will be issued the device (iPad) using the serial number from the factory. (Apple) That specific device stays with the student it was issued to throughout the entire school year. At the end of the school year, the device will be returned to the school for updating, etc. This procedure will repeat at the beginning and conclusion of each school year, clear through the students' graduation from high school.
The cost of the device is substantial. Each iPad represents $400 the District is investing in our students. The possibility of something happening is a reality. Normal wear on the device is expected, however, other damage, loss, or theft are also major considerations. To offset these projected costs there will be a $50 annual rental fee for each iPad. The fee will cover incidents like those previously described and it serves as an insurance policy for both the parents and the school. This fee must be paid before the student will receive the iPad.
On September 17, at 6:00 P.M., there will be a mandatory Parent Meeting in the GVMS Gymnasium. At least one parent must attend in order for their student to be eligible to receive the iPad. The meeting is for parents only, due to seating limitations. Please make a note of this extremely important meeting.
By way of information, attendance at the high school Parent Meeting does not meet the mandatory requirement for GVMS students, or vice versa.
(A letter requesting updated email addresses has already gone home with students younger than age 13. This information must be gathered in addition to the other criteria required.)
Our students are very excited to embrace this new opportunity. They are truly comfortable with the technology available today, and we hope to develop skills they can use throughout their life.
Thank you for your support.
