Reading
Measurements
The Acadience Reading (formally known as DIBELS) oral reading assessment is given to our students 3 times per year. We administer the assessment in the fall, winter and spring to determine progress for end of level benchmark goals. We will use the Acadience Reading benchmark assessment to measure student reading fluency proficiency. Our January 2019 combined composite K-3 proficiency reported 63% of our students are reading at grade level.
Action Plan Steps
Manti Elementary School Community Council members voted to improve reading fluency by hiring four paraprofessionals to work in all grade levels. Paraprofessionals will work with students in small group and one-on-one assisting teachers with reading instruction known to us as Power Hour. Paraprofessionals will also use the Acadience Reading progress monitoring assessment to assess student progress toward benchmark goals. This will help guide instruction and make necessary instructional changes if needed.

The Manti Elementary School Community Council voted to spend $5,000 to purchase iPads for our school during the 2019-2020 school year as we move to 1:1 iPad implementation. Our district iPad implementation process requires all 5th grade students to receive a new iPad to move on with them to the secondary level. This allocation will help with this process. We also need to purchase a color printer for the office. The SCC voted to allocate $1,200 to purchase the printer. This printer would be used to print data graphs and charts necessary for data meetings. Data meetings help guide instruction. We also need to purchase a projector and Apple TV's to use for teacher professional development. Currently all projectors are mounted in teacher classrooms. We need a projector that is mobile and accessible for teacher and paraprofessional trainings. We also need to update some of our Apple TV's since our current Apple TV's are outdated. The SCC voted to allocate $450 to purchase a projector and $1,950 to purchase new Apple TV's.

Action Plan Steps
Manti Elementary School implemented a refocus program for students. We hired a full time paraprofessional to help monitor students in various activities (e.g. classroom, school grounds, halls, assemblies, lunch, tests, etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment. Students learn better when teachers are allowed to teach without distractions and students can learn more effectively if they have a place to de-escalate, refocus and problem solve. We use the program, Educator's Handbook, to track behavior of students referred to the refocus room. This program provides continues feedback to teachers and administrators regarding student progress for the purpose of problem-solving individual student needs and making changes in strategies, as needed. Manti Elementary Community Council voted to allocate funds to support our PBIS system, refocus room.

If additional funds are available, how will the council spend the funds to implement the goals in this plan?
If additional funds are available we will purchase additional iPads and Apple TV's (goal #4). We will also add additional funds for teacher professional development (goal #6). Purchasing additional iPads will help our 1:1 initiative and more teachers can update their Apple TV's to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of instruction.
