The South Sanpete Board of Education acknowledges the importance of developing guidelines for the enrollment and placement status of employees infected with AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome). The following policy statements follow the 1987, U.S. Supreme Court ruling of Infectious Disease.
- Any employee of the District who is diagnosed as having tested positive with AIDS shall remain on the job until such time as a committee made up of the employee's physician, a physician appointed by the District, the employee's supervisor, a person representing the employee, a representative from the State Department of Health, and a representative of the District administration reviews the placement status of the employee. After reviewing the most recent research findings, the type of job the employee is performing, and the danger of transmission, the committee shall make a recommendation.
- If or when job continuance is precluded, contract employees shall be granted a medical leave in accordance with District policy.
- Information relating to an employee's illness shall be held in strict confidence and will only be disclosed on a need-to-know basis.
