Ephraim Elementary School Community Council Meeting 

October 10, 2017– 3:30 PM

 MINUTES

 

Council members in attendance:  Principal Gannon Jones, Teacher: Marilee Larsen Parents: Shana Kumor, Jessie Jones, Andrew Bahlmann.

Council members not in attendance:  Brooke Hallows

The meeting took place at 3:30 in the Ephraim Elementary conference room.

  1. Welcome: Mr. Jones welcomed everyone and turned the time over to Andy Bahlmann who is the returning chair.
  1. Checklists of responsibilities were gone over and all SCC members were given handouts defining their different responsibilities along with the rules and procedures for SCC meetings.
  1. New officers were elected for the new year. Andrew Bahlmann was elected as the new SCC Chair and Marilee Larsen as the new SCC Vice Chair. A motion was stated by Jessie Jones and seconded by Marilee Larsen. The vote was unanimous.
  1. Mr. Jones also went over the Sage testing scores and DIBELS reading scores from the previous year. Ephraim Elementary is doing very well when compared to the rest of the state. These results can be found online at datagateway.schools.utah.gov
  1. All members then went over the School Improvement Plan, Reading Improvement Plan, Professional Development Plan, and the Emergency Preparedness Plan for the 2017-18 school year. All members had a chance to read each document and comment on the contents. Suggestion was made to make an acronym key. All documents were voted on and passed unanimously.
  1. Reading Powerhour was discussed with the council members. This is a new reading intervention program being put in place at Ephraim Elementary this year in first and second grade. The program focuses on the specific reading needs of each student in a small group setting for one hour Monday – Thursday. Specific reading intervention programs are being utilized to focus on the specific reading skills needed for each student. Mr. Jones stated that this is a new program that they have taken a lot of cooperation and coordination from classroom teachers and paraeducators. They have all worked extremely hard to make this happen. The main goal is to get at least 90 % of the students at or above reading level by the time they exit 2nd grade.
  2.  The current 2017-18 plan was gone over.
  3. Agenda items, meeting date, time and place were discussed for the meeting on November 21st. Next meeting will take place on November 21st at 3:30.
