Community Council Minutes

November 8, 2022

3:00 pm GVES Faculty room

In Attendance:  Arleen Jensen, Marci Childs, Mindy Coates, Cheltzey Larson, Heidi Avery.  Attending by zoom - Erin Cherry.  Excused - Elise Bown

1 - Review and approve minutes from October:  Minutes were reviewed and approved.  Motion to approve - Marci Childs.  Second - Mindy Coates

2 - Year to date spending:  Spending was reviewed.  Expenditures were updated and there were no questions.

3 - Wellness Policy - The committee reviewed the wellness policy.  Our lunch program is running smoothly with no complaints.  Our fresh fruit and vegetable program is underway and is enjoyed by all.  This program gives the students the chance to sample a wide variety of fruits and vegetables that might not be available to them on a regular basis.  Other items discussed were the availability of carb counts for students that need it for health concerns, the lunch application process, availability of menus online or paper copies, and the amount of time students are given to eat their lunch.  Some discussion was held on select menu items and concerns were noted.  Another change in our school was noted.  We are no longer  giving candy or treats to students as rewards for different behaviors.

4 - PIC:  Amy Dalley is the PIC President.  The PIC pizza fundraiser was very successful this year.  Different committees have been organized and are underway.

5 - Christmas Celebration - Our Christmas program will be held on Dec 12 at 6 pm at the high school gymnasium.  A matinee performance will be held that day at the elementary school at 1 pm.  Teamhive.live will be here to livestream the matinee performance.

6 - Questions and concerns:  Morning drop offs are still a concern.  Some parents are not following the drop off location and rules.  We will try and see if we can get Officer Buege to be here at least once a week in the morning and once a week in the evening to reinforce the drop off and pick up procedures for the safety of our students.

All day kindergarten feedback - Parents are happy with the availability of all day kindergarten.  They also like the option to have a choice to attend all day or not.  Students not participating in all day have the option to enroll in all day at the quarter breaks.  Students can also drop out at any time.

Students will return from Christmas break on January 4.  January 3rd will be a professional development day for teachers.

Spring PTC:  Conferences will be held on Tuesday, Feb 21, 2023, 10 am - 6 pm and  Wednesday, Feb 22, from 3 pm - 6 pm.  No school will be held for students on Friday Feb. 17, Monday, Feb. 20 and Tuesday, Feb 21, 2023.   Monday is Presidents’ Day.

Our next community council meeting will be held on February 9, 2023 at 3 pm in the Gunnison Valley Elementary School conference room.
