Minutes for Community Council 10/20/21


Members introduced themselves. Mr. Ipson gave an update of new employees, building updates and procedures of the community council.


Members Present: Justin Bradley, Lindsay Braithewaite, Traci Buchanan, 

Absent: Becca Christensen (excused)


Votes need to pass with ⅔ majority. There needs to be at least 4 members here.

Mr. Ipson is making us aware of training opportunities for community members. 


New leadership Kristi Nominated Justin Bradley for Chair and Lindsay seconded the motion and 6 of us voted to approve the nomination. Kristi nominated Lindsay and Justin seconded the motion. 6 people voted in favor of the motion.


Annual Report: Mission Statement at Manti Elementary. Love Learning excel in all we do and do what is right. All students are important, all students can achieve. Students can learn in a variety of ways. All students and teachers will have a safe environment in which they deserve respect.


Theme this year is “Connection with Kindness”: Rabbit Effect.  Take care of each other, build relationships.   


458 students, Preschool- 5th grade.  57% free and reduced lunch.  95% of that funding pays for student support staff.  Class size ranges from - 17-26 students.


Rise scores are down. Covid has affected our kids' academics.  Absences and soft closures. Reading achievement plan is that 100% of our students show growth from where they started at the beginning of the year in reading.   Quality TIer 1 instructions. Into Reading is our new reading program. Expose students everyday to multiple genres. Teach writing skills, Take Home library, Looking into possible power hour implementation.  Sharee Jensen Instructional Coach keeping tabs on our teacher’s needs. 


Volunteers are being welcomed into our building this year. 


Student wellness and Leader In Me, Mental health Counselor in the building 2 days a week.


Fridays are for professional development in the afternoons. 


Training for Science of Reading: “LTRS” Sharee Jensen will be a trainer.


Discover Phonics has been added to our Kindergarten and Special education services this year. Sharee Jensen is a Trainer for discovering phonics. 


Technology update: Digital Citizenship plan needed for class implementation. 

School Rules. Be safe, Be Kind, Be respectful.  


We will go over the emergency plan next month.  


Trust lands budget was reviewed. BTSA Teacher, paraprofessional salaries, LIM, Software, Technology Equipment,  


Trust land plans created, community council approves it and sends it to the district for review .State has to approve it after that. HIre paras, pay BTSA, improve technology, continue LIM, purchase age appropriate equipment, Provide professional development,  Total $67,700. 


Available: approximately $69,000. Help to reach our goal of 100% of our kids showing growth in reading.


TSSA Plan presented by principals.  We look at our progress. Last Year 67% of students showed growth. THis Year we had 76% of our students show growth. MEasurements: Math DIbels:Acadience, Rise, and DIbels, Office referrals to assess school wellness.  Typesey, Paras, Technology, Discover phonics for Kindergarten, PD.


General Information: Council meetings are held here at the school We have had zoom meetings, All parents are invited to attend.


Scheduled meetings : Nov. 17th, JAN 19 MARCH 16 MAY(AS NEEDED)


Lindsay made a motion to change our May meeting to April 20th. Kristi seconded motion. Motion was passed by unanimous vote.  This change has been noted on the community council calendar found on our website.

PTO president is Beth Anderson.  Traci suggested that the PTO should encourage membership through facebook.
