School Community Council Meeting

Welcome- Tresa Hanks - Chair

In Attendance: Karen Soper, Tresa Hanks, Kris Pogroszewski, Paula Tippets, Rachel Lundeberg, Amy Rasmussen, Tyra Taylor, Mandi Thomas, and Linda Blake

Action Items: 

Tresa Hanks welcomed committee members and reviewed Community Council Minutes from March 16, 2022. Minutes were approved by Paula Tippets, and Rachel Lundeberg seconded the motion. The vote was unanimous.

Viewed Trustlands plan for 2022-2023 (members will receive an email when it is complete).

We reviewed the upcoming school plan for 2022-2023 for Manti high.

Our goal is to raise ACT by .2 percent

We will pay for the salaries and benefits for our paraprofessionals and teachers.

We will pay for teacher professional development, which may include travel and some overnight stay.

Technology related supplies < $5,000 each- devices, computers, E-readers, flash drives, cables, monitor stands.

We will purchase iPads for students' use. We will also replace one computer lab with new computers.

Books, Ebooks, online curriculum, subscriptions

We will purchase and implement the Leader in Me curriculum for our ninth, tenth, and eleventh-grade leadership classes

Salaries, and benefits (teachers, aides, specialists, productibity, substitutes

We will hire a paraprofessional to support the work of our ELL teacher. The para will support our ELL students in the classroom, tutoring, and other additional support

It has gone before the South Sanpete School Board and was approved.

Information items:

  • Kris Pogroszewski mentioned that presently our High School graduation rate is 94%.
  • This year Utah Jazz awarded one of MHS students a full scholarship.
  • Sterling Scholars- Kris Pogroszewski/Mandi Thomas. We had six runners up in Sterling Scholars this year. Kris is amazed at what quality of students we send to Sterling Scholars.
  • Next week we will send out the application for next year's Sterling Scholars.

New PE teacher/Girls Basketball Coach - Eric Watson

He will be a PE teacher and girl basketball coach and will also be running a flex class. 

New math teacher- Jodee Sharpe currently teaches at Gunnison High School

MHS Greenhouse is almost complete. Mike Kilmer and students will start growing plants in it this summer. 

Junior Prom April 23, 2021, 6:30 Promenade will be in the new gym. Due to the weather, we can no longer hold it on the football field.

Graduation parade May 27, 2022, it will start at 5:00 pm

Went over activities for the last week of school.

Karen went over accreditation for our school. It will be coming up on May 9th.

Council members' Questions, Concerns, and suggestions

Karen Soper thanked everyone for their service this year.  She appreciated the member's insights, thoughts, and great judgment.  

We are saying goodbye to Amy Rasmussen, Paula Tippetts, and Kris Pogroszewski. Thank you for a job well done! 

Next year we will continue to meet on the 3rd Wednesday in October, January, March, and April.
