Re:      Architecture CAD course approval for Art credit

The South Sanpete School Board gives Career and Technical Education (CTE) approval to grant ART credit to students completing the Architecture CAD course(s) being offered at both Manti High and Gunnison High.

Credit History:
Historically, Art credit was given through the Architecture Drafting and Design course. The rationale that supports Art credit had focus within the standards and objectives that included:

  1. Design elements in Architecture (Color, Balance, etc.)
  2. Presentation Methods (3D Modeling, 2 Point Perspective, etc.)
  3. Drawing Instruments and Techniques.

Architecture course standards also include Architecture Planning, Construction Systems, Sub-Systems (Electrical, Climate Control, Plumbing), Codes, and Estimating.

Current Course Offerings:
Currently, CAD Architecture I (.5) is being offered at both high schools in the CTE 4-year plan (GVHS is off this year)

Rationale:
CTE feels this not only supports Art but helps students make the relationship from subject to real-life while reinforcing pathway efforts and career exploration. Upon careful consideration, local LEA’s have the authority to adjust a required graduation credit as long as it meets and follows criteria and is consistent to meet the student’s Plan for College and Career Readiness.
