                                                  Andreas Jensen         Burns A. Jensen

Bums A. Jensen enlisted in the army air force. He was working in Washington on a defense depot. He enlisted because he felt it was his duty. He loved his country and was proud to be an American. Bums never talked about the war much. It was a sad, hard time, friends being killed or badly wounded. Boys graduating from high school went straight into the service.

He served as a Staff Sargeant in the U.S. Army Air Corps in the Aleutian Islands off the cost of Alaska.  He spoke very little about his experiences, but told his family about a Japanese airman who at the same time every day would fly over their position and strafe them.  He seemed to do little harm and gave them something to look f orward to each day.

He often spoke of the Kodiac Bears and how large they were and how fascinating they were.

One story Bums told his wife, Darthella was that they prayed a lot and depended on God. There was one young man in his outfit who claimed he was an "atheist" claimed he didn't believe there was a "God".  They had been out on a mission and one wing on their plane was badly damaged.   They were terrified for their safety. They all prayed, except for the one young man. As they neared the landing strip, the damaged wing fell off and everyone prayed harder. And the non-believer being very scared yelled out offear, "Oh my God"' They landed safely. It should have been impossible.  The pilot brought them in on one wing and a prayer! Their prayers were answered!
