Robert S. Jensen was born to Alex C. Jensen and Christina Jensen  on February  18, 1918.

On September 24, 1941 Robert entered into active duty.  He went to Manti and then on to Fort Douglas where he stayed for two weeks.  Then on to Fort Monmouth, New Jersey, where he received his basic training and was specially trained in the motor transport in the signal corp.

On December 7, 1941, the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor and a lot of people were killed.  In a week, he was on his way to the west coast, arriving a few days before Christmas on Angel Island near San Fransisco, California.  One June 12, 1942, Robert sailed on the liner Mariposa.  They sailed for 18 days, then landed in Melbourne, Austrailia.  He was assigned to a headquarter unit coding messages for three weeks.

On February 25, 1942 he flew to Broome, Australia in the northwest part of Australia.

On  March3, 1942, Robert had his first experience in an air raid.  Six enemy plains came over, killing several people, burning fifteen flying boats, six big B-24's, and B-17's. Their unit had nothing to fight with except a 45 pistol.

They left Broome and flew south to Perth.  They took a train back to Melbourn.  He worked in headquarters again.  With all the traveling he didn't receive any mail.  It took a long time to catch up with him.  He lived in tents all of the time he was in Australia.

In September 1942, they sent the group to Sydney, Australia to work in the Signal Corp purchasing section of headquarters.  On January 3, 1943 Robert was made a sergeant.  He worked there for two years.

On the October 24, 1944, Robert sailed from Australia and landed in San Fransisco.  On November 6, 1944, he had a furlough and went to Centerfield.  He married, so it was a busy time.  They were married November 20, 1944 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.  After the furlough, they reported at Missoula, Montana, then they were sent to Riverside, California where they stayed until Robert was released.
