My great grandpa received this letter for answering the call to serve:
To you who answered the call of your country and served in its Armed Forces to bring about the total defeat of the enemy, I extended the heartfelt thanks of a grateful Nation. As one of the Nation's finest, you undertook the most severe task one can be called upon to perform. Because you demonstrated the fortitude, resourcefulness and calm judgment necessary to carry out that task, we now look to you for leadership and example in further exalting our country in peace.
After that, he reported to Fort Douglas, Utah, and then was sent to Camp Robert's, California. After his basic training he came home for a farewell. He was then shipped to Seattle, Washington. He was out in the middle of the ocean when the war ended. He was then shipped to Scipan where he was a medic and food inspector. Sometimes while he was there, he would go through the caves and kill all the Japanese that were hiding in the caves.
After Devon died the President sent a letter to my grandma. The United States of America honors the memory of Devon L. Larson. This certificate is awarded by a grateful nation in recognition of devoted and selfless
