Enlisted in August 1946, after graduating from high school, Deloyd went to Basic Training in San Antonio, Texas.  After Basic Training, he was shipped overseas to the island of Okinawa.

Okinawa is rich in scenic beauty, but poor in natural resources.  There is no ore and very little timber of commercial value.

After a while at Okinawa, a short time later he was transferred to Tatchicowa.  There he attended air craft mechanic school.  He studied V1650, R2000, R2800, and R3350 engines.  Deloyd synchronized the fuel injection pumps on the R3350 engineer.

After Deloyd graduated from aircraft mechanic school, he was sent back to Okinawa.

One weekend they would fly from Okinawa, to Tokyo, just for the weekend it was called R&R.  The next weekend they flew to the Philippine Islands.

About every two weeks they would fly from one place to another.
