1944-1946
Interviewed March 2001
William Pay was drafted by the United States Army in 1944. He was 24 years of age. He went to basic training in Fort Waters, Texas. He was in that basic training camp for about 6 weeks. He was stationed right outside of Japan where he watched for bombs and missles. If they saw anything they were to blow it up in the air so that it would not hurt anything. Where he was stationed the Japanese never tried to bomb anything, so in late1946 he was dismissed.
