He was called to serve the United States Army and fight for his country in World War II. He served in the army for a little more than two years. He said that one of his main posts was that he guarded a gate from enemy troops he said he never got any action, but he could hear the bullets and bombs all over. He also said that he could hear the screams and yells of many men. After a while he got really sick and was flown to a hospital in Paris. He was in the hospital for a couple of months and by the time he got out the war was over and the U.S. had won. On his return home he was thanked and the President of the United States sent him a letter of recognition an a certificate.
