August 4, 1945 - July 10, 1946
Standley Pickett went into the war August 4, 1945. He got out of the war July 10, 1946. His basic training was in Camp Fannin Texas, in Tyler Texas for 12 weeks. Then he went to the ETO (Euopean Theater operation) in 78th Infantry division.He went accross on the Lewi Pasture troop ship. He landed in England then went to France. After France he went to Germany. He never fought , but he could hear cannon shots and gun fire. He was a gaurd over there on his furlow (days off). He visited Switzerland. The war ended in 1946. He was paid $1.00 a day plus food and clothing. After Germany he went to England to go home. It took about seven days. he was seasick on the way to England, but not on the way home. From England they landed in New York.
