Leland Sorensen was drafted to Ft. Douglas at the age of 18 on February 14. His dad deferred him to help with the crops. Then he got transferred to San Diego for basic training. Then to Oceanside for combat training. He was at Pearl Harbor when it got bombed. At Guam the Japanese surrendered three weeks after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Then he went to Oakland and then a week later he went to China. He was in China over a year and went home. He was in the service for 22 months (2 years). It took him 31 days to come home by boat.
